Job Summary
Provide quality nursing care to patients in the surgical services unit and PACU under program manager supervision, maintaining competence through required continuing education and actively participating in CNO quality assurance and risk management initiatives. Deliver advanced cardiac life support (ACLS), basic life support (BLS), and pediatric advanced life support (PALS) training as part of onsite staff development. Work full-time shifts with on-call rotation, accepting direction and feedback while demonstrating excellent assessment and problem-solving skills in fast-paced environments. Maintain IV certification, administer medications, and utilize knowledge of ORNAC/OPANA/NAPAN standards. This temporary part-time role supports the hospital's commitment to a safe, patient-centered environment through quality improvement and service programs.
Required Qualifications
- Registered nurse
- Current member in good standing of the college of nurses of Ontario
- Post anaesthesia care nursing course
- Post degree operating room course
- IV certification
- BCLS certification maintained throughout employment
- Knowledge of ORNAC/OPANA/NAPAN standards of practice
- Excellent assessment skills
- Demonstrated surgical nursing knowledge
- Good organizational and problem-solving skills in stressful situations
- Good interpersonal skills with an ability to work well and effectively with a variety of staff, patients and family
- Good communication skills, both oral and written
- Demonstrated ability to work well independently with minimal supervision
- Demonstrated competence in the administration of medication
- Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to accept direction and feedback
- Computer literacy
- Good attendance and availability
- Ability to work shifts and be on call
Desired Qualifications
- ACLS certification
- PALS certification
- Critical Care experience within the last two years
