Job Summary
Provide quality nursing care to patients in the surgical services unit and PACU under program manager supervision. Maintain clinical competence through ongoing continuing education and actively participate in hospital-wide quality assurance and risk management initiatives. Demonstrate surgical nursing knowledge, medication administration skills, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment while accepting direction and feedback. This temporary part-time role (up to 6 months) requires a current Registered Nurse with a Post Anaesthesia Care nursing course, IV certification, and BCLS. Candidates must have ACLS and PALS certification, ORNAC/OPANA/NAPAN standards knowledge, and critical care experience within the last two years preferred. Onsite training for ACLS, BLS, and PALS is provided.
Required Qualifications
- Registered nurse
- Current member in good standing of the college of nurses of Ontario
- Post anaesthesia care nursing course
- Post degree operating room course
- IV certification
- BCLS certification maintained throughout employment
- Knowledge of ORNAC/OPANA/NAPAN standards of practice
- Excellent assessment skills
- Demonstrated surgical nursing knowledge
- Good organizational and problem-solving skills in stressful situations
- Good interpersonal skills with an ability to work well and effectively with a variety of staff, patients and family
- Good communication skills, both oral and written
- Demonstrated ability to work well independently with minimal supervision
- Demonstrated competence in the administration of medication
- Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to accept direction and feedback
- Computer literacy
- Good attendance and availability
- Ability to work shifts and be on call
Desired Qualifications
- ACLS certification
- PALS certification
- Critical Care experience within the last two years
