Registered Nurse on the Cardiac Surgical - Procedural IMCU unit at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital in Norfolk, VA. The 24-bed IMCU cares for pre- and post-cardiac surgery patients including bypass, valve repairs/replacements, thoracic procedures, and cardiac devices. Responsibilities follow the nursing process across assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation, with emphasis on ethics, cultural congruence, collaboration, and evidence-based practice. New graduates may join the 6-month Nurse Residency program, with comprehensive training, mentoring, and professional development. The unit cares for patients with cardiac arrhythmias, heart failure, and chest pain, typically with 3-4 patients per nurse based on acuity.
