Job Summary
Assess the needs of adult and pediatric patients in the Emergency Department while ensuring a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors. Utilize the Emergency Nursing Process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate emergency patients, interpreting arrhythmias and adhering to RVH policies, the College of Nurses of Ontario standards, and relevant legislation. Collaborate interdependently with a multidisciplinary team including physicians, social workers, and patient care assistants to deliver quality care. Maintain a team approach to cope with stress and crisis situations while demonstrating commitment to continuous quality improvement and customer service. This role requires one year of emergency or acute medical nursing experience, Coronary Care Level 1 certification, and BCLS/ACLS courses.
Required Qualifications
- Current Certificate of Registration from the College of Nurses of Ontario
- One (1) year experience in emergency or acute medical nursing
- Coronary Care Level 1
- Demonstrated competency in Arrhythmia interpretation
- Current BCLS
- ACLS course
- Must be able to perform all essential duties of position description, which may include the ability to lift and move patients, pushing, pulling, bending and stooping
- Function within the Health and Safety guidelines providing safe and supportive environment for all patients, staff, physicians and volunteers
Desired Qualifications
- TNCC course
- PALS or ENPC course
- Completion of ENCC or Emergency nursing certificate
- Participation in RNAO/ ENAO/ ENA
- Ability to function independently within the scope of practice
- Sound problem solving, communication (oral and written), conflict resolution and critical decision-making skills
- Sound knowledge of nursing process and responsibilities of profession
- Ability to learn about, from and with other members of the patient care team to foster a strong Interprofessional model of care
- Demonstrated ability to meet the physical and emotional responsibilities of the position
- Demonstrated ability to be an effective listener with excellent organizational, leadership, and communication skills
- Demonstrated ability in customer service with a commitment to patient–focused and family centered care
- Remains calm and functions using a team approach to cope with stress and crisis situations
- Uses the Emergency Nursing Process to assess, plan, implement and evaluate Emergency patients
- Demonstrated commitment to the professional growth and development of self and other
- Demonstrated commitment to the concepts of Continuous Quality Improvement and Customer Service
