Job Summary

Assess patients with complex GI, GU, and integumentary disorders to develop evidence-based plans of care for wounds, fistulas, ostomies, and continence issues. Respond to physician consult requests by writing orders within scope, determining wound care frequency, and marking patients for ostomy surgery while educating families on pre- and post-op needs. Perform the nursing process using current clinical standards, coordinate interdisciplinary rounds, and provide relationship-based care with partners. Deliver immediate care during hyperbaric oxygen therapy, monitor for adverse reactions, operate chamber controls, maintain accurate logs, and perform chamber maintenance. Serve as a clinical expert in hospital committees, evaluate outcome data, and develop product formularies to support best practices for wound and ostomy conditions.

  • Monitors and ensures the proper delivery of treatment gas
  • Monitors the patients continually during treatments for symptoms of oxygen intolerance, claustrophobia, hypoglycemic reactions, decompression sickness or any other adverse reaction to HBO treatments
  • Intervenes in the event of an adverse reaction
  • Follows established protocols
  • Demonstrates competence in reinforcing age specific patient and family education
  • Performs ordered treatments including but not limited to vital signs, blood sugars, and emergency procedures
  • Documents required elements of each treatment
  • Demonstrates and applies basic knowledge about HBOT chamber operations
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the basic physiological principles/concepts of the HBO treatment
  • Operates controls to pressurize and depressurize the chamber
  • Maintains accurate logs and records of the time, pressures, depths, etc. of chamber operations
  • Performs maintenance of the hyperbaric chamber (s) and related support systems
  • Cleans chamber following each treatment
  • Maintains emergency equipment and supplies located in the HBO area
  • Documents equipment checks as required by established policies
  • Serves as clinical expert in various hospital committees, community groups and organizations
  • Leads outcome evaluations
  • Participates in improvement initiatives related to WOC nursing practice
  • Evaluates and develops product formularies and algorithms
  • Facilitates the needs of the bariatric population with specialty bed management
  • Coordinates the delivery and documentation of safe quality patient care
  • Promotes interdisciplinary communication
  • Completes regular interdisciplinary planning/rounds
  • Completes time
