Job Summary

Provide comprehensive nursing care in a Surgical Inpatient Unit using the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, outcome identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation). Collaborate with physicians and health-team members to coordinate procedures and treatments; demonstrate leadership and clinical judgment in coordinating patient care and directing/delegating activities of the unit team. Conduct patient interviews, assess GI, CV, respiratory, renal, and neurological status; determine mobility, sensory deficits, prostheses use, skin condition, and pain management; document and communicate patient health status and care plan; plan for discharge and coordinate referrals for post-hospital care. Administer prescribed treatments and medications, ensure patient safety, provide emotional support and education to patients and families, and document care accurately. Maintain ongoing assessment and revision of care plans, supervise care team members, and participate in interdisciplinary planning to improve patient outcomes under applicable regulatory guidelines.

Required Qualifications

  • Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing preferred
  • Must be enrolled in an accredited BSN program within two years and obtain BSN within five years of job entry
  • Current license to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State
