Job Summary
Provide nursing care based on physician and provider orders to meet the physical, mental, and emotional needs of Veteran patients at the Community Based Outpatient Clinic. Supervise support staff, medical assistants, and licensed practical nurses while performing procedures such as dressing changes, suture removal, and venipunctures. Lead PACT team huddles, triage walk-in patients, and ensure smooth patient flow according to VA access standards. Document all patient information in VISTA and maintain current reminder tracking systems. Administer medications per facility protocols and perform CPR and assist during cardiac arrest procedures. Assist providers with electronic encounter documentation and participate in the Performance Improvement Program. Maintain universal precautions, infection control practices, and patient confidentiality while complying with federal and Joint Commission safety regulations.
Required Qualifications
- Registered Nurse (RN)
- Three years of experience in Medical Surgical Unit, Outpatient Facility, Primary Care and/ or Adult Health
- Current and unrestricted nursing license in Pennsylvania
- Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)/ Basic Life Support (BLS) from American Heart Association (AHA) or Military Training Network (MTN)
- Knowledge of and ability to apply professional nursing principles, procedures, and techniques
- Ability to assess patient condition, recognize adverse signs and symptoms, and react swiftly in emergency situations
- Ability to set realistic, measurable education goals for patients, taking into consideration patient/family needs, level of understanding and available local resources
- Ability to develop and provide individualized and group counseling, guidance, and health instruction with the focus on disease prevention and health maintenance
- Ability to teach patients and/or families proper home health care activities, such as giving injections, taking blood pressures, changing wound dressings, etc.
- Knowledge of pharmacological agents used in patient treatment, including desired effects, side effects, complications, and patient usage considerations
- Demonstrate knowledge of age-specific customer service techniques with exceptional verbal, written, and telephone communication skills
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Software, Electronic Medical Records and computer maneuverability
- Knowledge of pharmacology
- Must be detailed oriented and have the ability to multi-task
- RN graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate state-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE)
- Moderate physical activity. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 25 pounds or standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day
- Required to respond to any medical emergency within the clinic, where a fast walk or jog may be necessary to provide assistance

- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Preferred
