Job Summary
Perform physical assessments, administer medications, and manage acute and chronic conditions for detained individuals while adhering to correctional facility security protocols. Monitor vital signs, develop care plans, triage patients, and respond to medical emergencies by providing first aid and coordinating transport. Educate patients on preventative care and substance abuse prevention, maintain accurate medical records, and document treatment plans. Work independently within a controlled environment alongside correctional officers to ensure patient safety and well-being. New grads are encouraged to apply, with training provided in correctional healthcare.
Required Qualifications
- Holds a current, unrestricted license as a Registered Nurse within Florida
- Must possess an active BLS CPR Certification (AHA required)
- Knowledge of nursing practice principles and techniques, occupational health and safety standards, infectious disease management, applicable health care laws, regulations, and procedures for direct health care services
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Able to work independently and in a team
- Flexible schedule and availability to work overtime when needed
- Integrity, professionalism and ability to adhere to a Code of Conduct and comply with all facility(s) correctional healthcare policies, procedures, and legal requirements
- Ability to interact effectively with patients from diverse backgrounds, including those with mental health or substance abuse issues
- Must have the ability to maintain confidentiality of all proprietary and/or confidential information and integrity, professionalism and ability to adhere to a Code of Conduct and comply with all facility(s) correctional healthcare policies, procedures, and legal requirements
- Must pass the facility's criminal background check and drug screening
- Must have the ability to stand for long periods
- Must have the ability to lift and move patients (up to 50 pounds)
- Must have the ability to bend, squat, reach, push, pull, walk significant distances, and perform physically demanding tasks like CPR, all while maintaining good balance and endurance throughout a shift
