Job Summary
Conduct comprehensive nursing assessments, administer medications, and coordinate pharmacy and laboratory orders for clients in a residential psychiatric treatment center. Perform physical assessments including vitals, EKGs, and venipuncture, while documenting observations, daily notes, and treatment plan inputs in the Sunwave electronic charting system. Manage controlled medication security, conduct urine drug tests, and assist with admissions, transfers, and discharges to ensure smooth facility flow. Collaborate with the Director of Nursing, medical team, and direct care staff to maintain a safe, therapeutic environment and address suicide or abuse risks. Prepare clients for discharge through individualized counseling and medication education.
Required Qualifications
- Current RN license within the state of Virginia
- Valid driver's license
- Acceptable driving record
- Clearance of criminal background
- TB test clearance
- Current CPR and First Aid certification
- Graduate of an accredited nursing school
- Ability to move twenty-five pounds
- Ability to communicate with peers, clients and/or vendors
- Ability to move throughout the building
- Ability to participate in activities outdoors and off facility grounds
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time
- Ability to sit or remain stationary for periods of time
- Ability to talk or hear
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, reach, climb or balance
- Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl
- Ability to taste or smell
- Ability to assess suicide/homicide risk and create clinically appropriate interventions
- Understanding of identifying abuse/neglect in client population
- Ability to chart vitals, daily assessments, group notes, shift notes, and enter physician orders
- Ability to perform physical assessments including vital signs and recognize symptoms and distress of clients in treatment
- Ability to perform an EKG and send to the appropriate medical team
- Ability to administer medications
- Ability to manage the nursing area including ensuring medications are secured
- Ability to properly complete the admission and discharge process
- Ability to document assessment of abnormal involuntary movements (AIMS) in clients receiving antipsychotic medications
- Ability to perform venipuncture and maintain universal precautions while collecting blood
- Ability to schedule lab pick-up and upload results in chart
- Clinical knowledge of specialized treatment including established behavioral patterns, therapeutic treatment methods, and dietary/nutritional needs
- Ability to demonstrate effective verbal/written communication of clinical information during shift hand off
- Ability to perform a comprehensive nursing assessment identifying client's medical needs, capabilities, and limitations
- Ability to record and transcribe physicians written and verbal orders
- Ability to communicate observations and recommendations for clients' plan of care
- Ability to identify abnormal diagnostic data and bring to the attending physician's attention
- Ability to document the administration of medication including PRN
- Ability to coordinate all pharmacy and laboratory orders, delivery, and refills
- Ability to maintain responsibility for the security of all controlled medications
- Ability to provide, structure, and maintain a therapeutic environment
- Ability to document observations in nursing assessment and daily notes in electronic charting system
- Ability to document ongoing assessment of resident behaviors and feelings
- Ability to prepare clients for discharge through individualized counseling and instruction
- Ability to provide education to clients and families about medications, side effects, contraindications, and physical symptoms
- Ability to review clinical records for accuracy and quality documentation
- Ability to assist in the coordination of admissions, transfers, and discharges
- Ability to coordinate facility infection control program
- Ability to consistently arrive to work on time
- Ability to adapt to changes in the facility function, management styles, and facility routines
- Ability to read, understand, adhere to, and model all company policy statements on ethics, conduct, and conflict of interests
- Ability to adhere to facility policies, procedures, rules, and regulations
- Ability to maintain positive attitude and act as a team player
- Ability to attend and complete all training within assigned time frames
- Ability to perform other duties as assigned
