Job Summary

Conduct comprehensive assessments and re-assessments of surgical patients' psychosocial, physical, educational, and cultural needs. Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to define, implement, and evaluate individualized plans of care while communicating patient status and responding to clinical changes. Administer medications adhering to the five rights and Surgical Services policy, ensuring patient safety through strict aseptic technique during procedures. Perform scrub duties, prepare rooms with instruments and supplies, and manage specimen processing. Document the nursing process timely and provide accurate reports for safe care transfers. Maintain CPR certification and demonstrate autonomous practice consistent with evidence-based standards.

Required Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing
  • Current Registered Nurse license in the State of Connecticut
  • Certification in Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) upon hire
  • Previous surgical or labor and delivery experience
  • Experience assisting with C-sections
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing
  • Basic computer skills
  • Ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations
  • Ability to utilize critical thinking skills and sound judgment in priority setting and delegation
  • Demonstration of autonomous practice consistent with evidence-based standards
  • Knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the lifespan
  • Skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care to the patient population served
  • Ability to interpret data about the patient status in order to identify each patient's age-specific needs
  • Ability to provide an accurate and pertinent report of the patient's condition for safe transfer of care
  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge of and assure maintenance of aseptic technique throughout the surgical procedure
  • Ability to effectively function in the scrub role
