Job Summary
Conduct direct nursing care for patients in the operating room, including assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating individualized care plans. Manage patient assignments by delegating tasks to team members and develop comprehensive educational and discharge plans for patients and families. Document accurate clinical assessments and integrate evidence-based practice into daily care. Support staff development through precepting and participate in performance improvement initiatives and departmental committees. Requires Massachusetts RN licensure, BLS certification, and minimum one year of operating room experience with prior circulating and scrubbing skills.
Required Qualifications
- Massachusetts RN Licensure
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
- Certification(s) relevant to the department and the type of patient care being provided
- Experience based on level (I, II, III, or IV)
- A minimum of 1 year of Operating Room experience
- Prior circulating and scrubbing experience
- Ability to effectively communicate with patients, families, physicians, and healthcare team
- Knowledge of and application of the nursing process
- Occasional lifting of 30-35 lbs and turning patients
- Prolonged standing and walking
- Occasional twisting, bending, reaching, pushing/pulling, sitting, kneeling, and squatting
- Exposure to infectious disease and possible carcinogenic chemicals
- Exposure of blood-borne pathogens
- Requires fine manual dexterity to lift and maneuver patients
- Requires visual and aural acuity necessary to monitor patient care
