Job Summary
Perform initial health screenings and physical assessments of newly detained individuals, while monitoring and documenting patient vitals and medical histories. Provide direct patient care by triaging, assessing needs, developing care plans, and managing acute and chronic conditions such as asthma, hypertension, and diabetes. Respond to medical emergencies, administer medications, and ensure timely transport to healthcare facilities. Educate patients on preventative care and substance abuse prevention while adhering to correctional facility security protocols. Maintain accurate medical records and report relevant information. New grads are encouraged to apply, as training is provided for those entering the field.
Required Qualifications
- Holds a current, unrestricted license as a Registered Nurse within the state
- Must possess an active BLS CPR Certification (AHA required)
- Knowledge of nursing practice principles and techniques, occupational health and safety standards, infectious disease management, applicable health care laws, regulations, and procedures for direct health care services
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Able to work independently and in a team
- Flexible schedule and availability to work overtime when needed
- Integrity, professionalism and ability to adhere to a Code of Conduct and comply with all facility(s) correctional healthcare policies, procedures, and legal requirements
- Ability to interact effectively with patients from diverse backgrounds, including those with mental health or substance abuse issues
- Must have the ability to maintain confidentiality of all proprietary and/or confidential information and integrity, professionalism and ability to adhere to a Code of Conduct and comply with all facility(s) correctional healthcare policies, procedures, and legal requirements
- Must pass the facility's criminal background check and drug screening
- Must have the ability to stand for long periods
- Must have the ability to lift and move patients (up to 50 pounds)
- Must have the ability to bend, squat, reach, push, pull, walk significant distances, and perform physically demanding tasks like CPR, all while maintaining good balance and endurance throughout a shift
