Job Summary
Provide nursing care to assigned patients independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team, assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating client care. Participate in discharge planning, act as a client advocate, and teach families about illness, injury, and health promotion. Document care provided and respond to incidents per established policies while collaborating with healthcare providers. Maintain clinical competence, operate related equipment, and utilize computerized client care systems. Work within the scope of practice defined by VCH policies and BCCNM standards.
Required Qualifications
- Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM)
- Demonstrated ability in nursing practice related to designated client group
- Demonstrated ability to develop and implement care plans
- Demonstrated ability to adjust to unexpected events, problem-solve, set priorities and deal with conflict
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively (both orally and in writing)
- Demonstrated ability to deal with others effectively including the ability to work collaboratively as a member of an interdisciplinary team
- Demonstrated ability to counsel and teach clients and their families
- Demonstrated ability to provide leadership through initiative and independence
- Demonstrated skill in clinical techniques and the use of applicable equipment and supplies
- Demonstrated skill in CPR techniques
- Demonstrated ability to operate related equipment including the ability to effectively use a computerized client care information system
- Demonstrated physical ability to perform the duties of the position
- Must be able to report past receipt of certain vaccines or history of certain infections
