Job Summary
Conduct lactation consultations for term and preterm newborns and provide inpatient educational classes to antepartum, postpartum, and high-risk patient populations regarding breastfeeding benefits. Manage feeding routines, donor milk protocols, and follow-up phone calls while occasionally performing outpatient consults and GYN patient care. Support provider and RN peers on the 28-bed Mom & Baby unit, which handles approximately 300 monthly deliveries and admits infants transferred from other facilities. Some weekend and holiday coverage will be required. This role focuses exclusively on lactation support and does not include bedside nursing care.
Required Qualifications
- Associate's Degree
- 1-3 years bedside RN experience
- BLS-Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) - AHA - American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- RN-Registered Nurse - DORA - Department of Regulatory Agencies
- CLC-Certified Lactation Counselor - ALPP - Academy of Lactation Policy and Practice
- Some weekend and Holiday coverage
- Understanding policy and procedure related to basic newborn care, donor milk, and feeding routines
- Effective communication with peers and families
- Ability to function well in a teamwork environment
Desired Qualifications
- 1-3 years CLC experience preferred (this can occur coupled with RN experience)
- IBCLC-International Board of Certified Lactation Consultants - IBCLE - International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners
