Job Summary
Provide patient care in the Medical ICU utilizing the Nursing Process within the Mississippi Nurse Practice Act and ANA standards. Maintain competency by adhering to CDC infection control guidelines and the department's plan for care, treatment, and services. Manage patient populations across all ages while demonstrating clinical judgment and the ability to multi-task in complex, high-stress situations. Work a night shift from 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM with moderate physical activity and potential exposure to body fluids. Maintain required certifications including BCLS and ACLS, and complete de-escalation training within 90 days of orientation. Report to the Patient Care Manager within Singing River Gulfport Hospital, a mission-driven provider on the Mississippi Gulf Coast committed to improving community health.
Required Qualifications
- Currently licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of Mississippi
- BCLS certification
- De-escalation training completed by the end of position orientation (90 days)
- Appropriate level of de-escalation training
- Minimum of one (1) year of inpatient clinical experience
- Inpatient clinical experience within the past five (5) years, or evidence of successful refresher program
- Moderately active physical capability involving sitting with frequent requirements to move about the office, facility, and travel to another facility within the SRHS service area
- Ability to exert a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body
- Ability to use many physical motions in performing daily work activities
- Ability to perceive the nature of sound at normal speaking levels with or without correction
- Ability to make fine discriminations in sound
- Close visual and acuity with the ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus
- Ability to be active for extended periods of time without experiencing undue fatigue
- Keen mental faculties/assessment and decision making abilities
- Superior communication/speaking/enunciation skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Emotional stability conducive to dealing with high stress levels
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
- Attention to detail and the ability to multi-task in complex situations
- Ability to maintain collaborative and respectable working relationships throughout SRHS and other organizations
- Superior customer service skills and professional etiquette
- Proficient knowledge and ability to use a computer (must be keyboard proficient) and other office technology (i.e., telephone, fax, etc.), MS Outlook and Word
- Appropriate clinical judgment
- Ability to apply appropriate professional skills to a patient population of all ages
- Ability to work schedules assigned with the understanding that changes may be instituted according to the needs of the hospital for off days, shifts or weekends
