Job Summary
Perform initial health screenings, monitor vital signs, and document patient histories for newly detained individuals. Provide direct patient care by triaging needs, developing care plans, and managing acute and chronic conditions like asthma and diabetes. Respond to medical emergencies, administer medications, and educate patients on preventative care and substance abuse prevention. Adhere to correctional facility security protocols while working with officers to ensure patient safety. Maintain accurate medical records and report relevant information. Requires current unrestricted RN license in Iowa, active BLS CPR certification, and ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Full-time shift from 11:00 am to 11:00 pm.
Required Qualifications
- Holds a current, unrestricted license as a Registered Nurse within the IA
- Must possess an active BLS CPR Certification (AHA preferred)
- Knowledge of nursing practice principles and techniques, occupational health and safety standards, infectious disease management, applicable health care laws, regulations, and procedures for direct health care services
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of all proprietary and/or confidential information
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Able to work independently and in a team
- Flexible schedule and availability to work overtime when needed
- Integrity, professionalism and ability to adhere to a Code of Conduct and comply with all facility(s) correctional healthcare policies, procedures, and legal requirements
- Must pass the facility's criminal background check and drug screening
- Must have the ability to stand for long periods, lift and move patients (up to 50 pounds), bend, squat, reach, push, pull, walk significant distances, and perform physically demanding tasks like CPR, all while maintaining good balance and endurance throughout a shift
