Job Summary
Perform initial health screenings, document vital signs, and develop care plans for newly detained individuals. Provide direct patient care by managing acute and chronic conditions like asthma and diabetes, triaging needs, and responding to medical emergencies with first aid and transport coordination. Educate patients on preventative care and substance abuse prevention while adhering to correctional security protocols. Maintain accurate medical records and ensure compliance with all facility policies and legal requirements. Requires an active AL RN license, BLS CPR certification, and ability to work independently in a controlled environment.
Required Qualifications
- Holds a current, unrestricted license as a Registered Nurse within the state of AL
- Must possess an active BLS CPR Certification (AHA preferred)
- Knowledge of nursing practice principles and techniques, occupational health and safety standards, infectious disease management, applicable health care laws, regulations, and procedures for direct health care services
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Able to work independently and in a team
- Flexible schedule and availability to work overtime when needed
- Integrity, professionalism and ability to adhere to a Code of Conduct and comply with all facility(s) correctional healthcare policies, procedures, and legal requirements
- Ability to interact effectively with patients from diverse backgrounds, including those with mental health or substance abuse issues
- Must have the ability to maintain confidentiality of all proprietary and/or confidential information and integrity, professionalism and ability to adhere to a Code of Conduct and comply with all facility(s) correctional healthcare policies, procedures, and legal requirements
- Must pass the facility's criminal background check and drug screening
- Must have the ability to stand for long periods
- Must have the ability to lift and move patients (up to 50 pounds)
- Must have the ability to bend, squat, reach, push, pull, walk significant distances, and perform physically demanding tasks like CPR, all while maintaining good balance and endurance throughout a shift
Desired Qualifications
- Must possess an active BLS CPR Certification (AHA preferred)
