Job Summary

Provide clinical oversight for day-to-day hospital operations by carrying out physician orders, completing assessments, and initiating treatment plans. Direct patient care through group and individual therapy, education, and referrals while administering medications, IVs, and venipuncture as authorized. Supervise non-employee nursing staff, make care assignments, and ensure safe, sanitized environments with strict infection control and isolation protocols. Document all activities in medical charts, evaluate patient progress, and demonstrate discharge planning and transfer procedures.

Required Qualifications

  • Graduate from an accredited school of nursing with a Registered Nursing Degree
  • Current State Registered Nursing License
  • Current CPR Certification
  • Current CPI Certification
  • One (1) year of clinical nursing experience preferably in geriatrics and/or mental health
  • Position may require unscheduled overtime, week-end work
  • Must be willing and able to work flexible hours
  • Travel required
  • Awareness and knowledge of standard nursing practice and knowledge of the persons served and the conditions of geriatric and/or mentally ill patients
  • Communication and interpersonal skills to de-escalate potentially violent patients and prevention of and early intervention for assaultive, self-injurious behavior
  • Able to problem solve and make decisions, especially during crisis situations
  • Knowledge and demonstrates use of equipment including restraint systems
  • Techniques to identify patient behaviors, events and environmental factors that may trigger circumstances that require the use of restraint or seclusion
  • The use of nonphysical interventions skills
  • The safe application and use of all types of restraints or seclusion used in the hospital and how to recognize and respond to signs of physical and psychological distress
  • Clinical identification of specific behavioral changes that restraint or seclusion is no longer necessary
  • Monitoring the physical and psychological well-being of the patient who is restrained or secluded including but not limited to respiratory, circulatory, skin integrity, vital signs and any special requirements specified by the hospital policy associated with one-hour face-to-face evaluation
  • The use of first aid techniques and certification in the use of cardiopulmonary resuscitation, including required periodic recertification
  • Death reporting requirements associated with the use of seclusion and restraints
  • Knowledgeable and demonstrates hospital policies, procedures regarding abuse, neglect, patient care, patient safety, reporting incidents, investigating incidents, and compliance in regulations with federal and state laws, accreditation, policies and procedures regarding seclusion and restraint, and patient rights
  • Knowledgeable and demonstrates the needs of the population served
  • Knowledgeable and demonstrates all legal issues and applicable in federal and state laws, accreditation, policies and procedures
  • Knowledgeable and demonstrates universal precautions and the methods of controlling communicable diseases
  • Knowledgeable and demonstrates ethics, compliance, cultural competency, advance directives, and legal aspects
  • Knowledgeable and demonstrates IV administration, i.e., fluid/electrolyte balance, blood components, and venipuncture techniques
  • Knowledgeable and demonstrates DSM IV diagnosis, psychotropic medication, and side effects of medications
  • Knowledgeable and demonstrates thorough patient treatment plans that are based on an inventory of needs, strengths, and goals
  • Legal aspects of clinical practice and professional standards
  • Knowledgeable and demonstrates the mission of the hospital
  • Promotion of the reduction of stigma of mental illness
  • Knowledgeable of the persons served and their rights
  • Advocate for the needs of the persons served
  • Job will require frequent lifting of objects up to 40 pounds
  • Subject to standing, walking, sitting, bending, reaching, kneeling, pushing and pulling
  • Working safely and follow safety rules
