Job Summary

Provide clinical direction for all aspects of patient care in an acute inpatient setting, fostering patient/family centered care. Demonstrate clinical competency utilizing evidence-based practices in assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation, and outcomes. Collect data, complete nursing assessments, and develop individual plans of care in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team. Provide direct care to assigned patients, delegate tasks appropriately, and monitor quality of care through performance indicators and audits. Incorporate cost containment principles, utilize appropriate technology, and ensure adherence to safety protocols, infection control, and regulatory agency requirements. This role requires weekend, holiday, and on-call work. The position reports to a supervisor, manager, director, or executive.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Nursing
  • One (1) year experience as a registered nurse
  • Successful completion of the Prisma Health Nurse Residency Program
  • Successful completion of a comparable residency from another organization
  • 1 year of licensed practical nurse (LPN) experience for internal candidates within the same service line
  • Nursing diploma with licensure to practice as a registered nurse
  • Current RN compact/multistate license recognized by the NCSBN Compact State
  • Licensed to practice as a RN in the state the team member is working
  • Current licensure
  • Completion of required mandatory education
  • Knowledge of safety protocols
  • Knowledge of cost containment
  • Knowledge of quality improvement
  • Knowledge of regulatory agency requirements (TJC, SC DPH, CMS)
  • Knowledge of the South Carolina Nurse Practice Act
  • Ability to collect data and complete nursing assessment
  • Ability to assess and recognize subtle or actual changes in patients' status
  • Ability to identify nursing priorities for patient plan of care
  • Ability to develop an individual plan of care based on the age and assessed needs of the patient
  • Ability to develop the plan in collaboration with the patient and/or family, the provider, and other members of the interdisciplinary health care team
  • Ability to update the plan based on changes in the patient's condition
  • Ability to communicate changes in the plan to other members of the team
  • Ability to identify realistic and measurable goals and outcomes to be attained prior to discharge
  • Ability to validate goals and outcomes with the patient and/or family
  • Ability to demonstrate respect for the patient's/family cultural, spiritual, and belief system
  • Ability to include planning for discharge to assure continuity of care
  • Ability to provide direct care to assigned patients consistent with the established nursing plan
  • Ability to perform specific tasks based on organizational, departmental and/or unit policies and procedures within the RN scope of practice
  • Ability to delegate nursing tasks as appropriate to members of the healthcare team
  • Ability to monitor quality of care delivered on a continual basis
  • Ability to coordinate and organize tasks as appropriate
  • Ability to utilize resources internal and external to the unit
  • Ability to incorporate cost containment principles into nursing care
  • Ability to utilize appropriate technology in daily practice
  • Ability to maintain a safe environment to include awareness of safety procedures, protocols and adherence to patient care standards
  • Ability to utilize performance indicators to collect data, monitor quality and effectiveness while providing nursing care
  • Ability to complete assigned hospital/unit performance improvement monitoring (audits)
  • Ability to evaluate plan of care for effectiveness
  • Ability to document progress toward expected outcomes
  • Ability to revise plan of care as needed
  • Ability to report changes in patient condition
  • Ability to refer unresolved problems to appropriate healthcare team members
  • Ability to discuss outcomes with peers (via shift-to-shift report) and with other healthcare team members
  • Ability to evaluate opportunities for quality improvement
  • Ability to incorporate performance improvement recommendations into the plan of care
  • Ability to identify/assess patient/family learning needs
  • Ability to teach accordingly by using language and terminology that the patient/family is familiar with
  • Ability to implement and evaluate teaching plan
  • Ability to encourage patient/family involvement/participation
  • Ability to communicate the patient/family's need for education/teaching to others in the healthcare continuum
  • Ability to evaluate own nursing practice in relation to professional practice standard guidelines, state statutes, policies, procedures, rules/regulations and current specific knowledge
  • Ability to take personal accountability for maintaining competency through education and professional activities
  • Ability to reflect on identified areas of strength that offer opportunity for improvement
  • Ability to ensure that written documentation and oral communication focuses on pertinent information to support meeting patient/family care needs
  • Ability to serve as the patient's advocate
  • Ability to coordinate care
  • Ability to work collaboratively with providers and other members of the healthcare team
  • Ability to adhere to all compliance and policy/procedures of the organization including, but not limited to licensure renewal, assigned training, employee health screenings, time and attendance policy, dress code policy, patient confidentiality, infection control, medication administration
  • Ability to maintain professional licensure
  • Ability to complete required mandatory education in a timely manner
  • Ability to be scheduled for a weekend, holiday, and on-call work
