Job Summary
Provide safe, effective, and patient-centered care to adults in the Progressive Care Unit using the nursing process, while maintaining professional accountability for assigned patients. Evaluate the effectiveness of care provided by other direct caregivers and coordinate patient care collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams. Conduct nursing assessments and reassessments every 2 to 4 hours for patients requiring higher-level surveillance than general med/surg but not critical care. Manage diverse medical needs including dysrhythmias, hemodynamic instability, neurological deficits, and respiratory distress, including initiation of BIPAP, CPAP, or high-flow oxygen therapy. Uphold patient rights and confidentiality in alignment with Mercy's mission and Service Standards. Complete required unit-specific certifications such as ACLS, basic dysrhythmia interpretation, NIHSS, and ASLS within 90 days of hire.
Required Qualifications
- Graduated from a school of nursing (associate's degree, Diploma, or BSN)
- Is personally responsible for obtaining, and maintaining, a current RN license within the hiring state and/or compact licensure in which nursing duties are performed and must meet all state board of nursing requirements
- Seeking experienced nurses
- Basic Life Support certification through the American Heart Association or successful completion of course within 30 days of hire
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
- ENPC (Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course)
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
- PHON (Certified Pediatric/Hematology/Oncology Nurses)
- OCN (Oncology Certified Nurse)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- PEARS (Pediatric Assessment Recognition and Stabilization) Six Assessment & Care Modules
- C-EFM (Fetal Monitor Certification)
- Other unit-specific certifications as required
- The ability to push, pull, and/or lift 50 lbs on a regular basis
- The ability to grip, reach, bend, kneel, twist, and squat to perform duties
