Job Summary
Assess patient preoperative and postoperative status, including cardiovascular, respiratory, neurological, and hemodynamic parameters. Interpret monitor data, apply discharge scoring systems like Aldrete and PADSS, and develop individualized perianesthesia plans of care. Manage patient recovery from general, monitored, regional, and local anesthesia while administering medications safely and protecting patients from injury. Provide acute pain management, maintain organ system integrity, and ensure patient normothermia and infection prevention. Educate patients and support persons on psychosocial responses, nutrition, and wound care; involve them in perioperative decisions. Document nursing care accurately, collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, delegate tasks per state Nurse Practice Act, and participate in quality review and performance improvement projects.
Required Qualifications
- Graduate of an Accredited School of Nursing
- One year of Pre Operative or PACU experience
- Medical / surgical nursing experience
- Current state licensure to practice within good standings
- Successful completion of Basic Life Support (BLS) or Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) within 90 days of employment or documentation of current BLS/BCLS certification
- Successful completion of Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Course within 90 days of employment or documentation of current ACLS certification
- Successful completion of Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) course is required when pediatric care is included in the facility scope services within 90 days of employment or documentation of current PALS certification
