Job Summary
Assess patient preoperative and postoperative status, including cardiovascular, respiratory, neurological, and hemodynamic stability. Interpret monitor data, apply discharge scoring systems, and develop individualized perianesthesia plans of care. Manage patient recovery from anesthesia, administer medications safely, and maintain wound integrity and system perfusion. Provide acute pain management, ensure normothermia, and protect patients from injury and infection. Communicate patient status throughout the continuum, educate support persons, and provide accurate hand-off reports. Transfer care as needed and collaborate effectively with other disciplines. Participate in quality review projects, performance appraisals, and daily safety huddles. Maintain required competencies and pursue professional growth while acting as a patient advocate.
Required Qualifications
- Graduate of an Accredited School of Nursing
- One year of Pre Operative or PACU experience
- Medical / surgical nursing experience
- Current state licensure to practice within good standings
- Successful completion of Basic Life Support (BLS) or Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) within 90 days of employment or documentation of current BLS/BCLS certification
- Successful completion of Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Course within 90 days of employment or documentation of current ACLS certification
- Successful completion of Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) course is required when pediatric care is included in the facility scope services within 90 days of employment or documentation of current PALS certification
