Job Summary
Assess and document patient dimensions from pre-op phone calls through discharge, evaluating responses to interventions and communicating findings appropriately. Complete pre- and post-operative phone calls, H&P reviews, and admission instructions while developing individualized care plans based on nursing assessments and medical diagnoses. Administer medications and solutions using aseptic technique, assist with procedures like pain management and blocks, and monitor patients utilizing sound judgment from admission to discharge. Provide emotional support, inform families of patient status, and deliver patient education while collaborating with disciplines to ensure smooth perioperative flow. Reassess and revise care plans as patient conditions change, ensuring accurate, timely documentation of all care delivered.
Required Qualifications
- Graduate of an NLN accredited school of registered nursing
- Current licensure as a RN in the State of MN or WI multi-state
- Current CPR/ACLS/PALS certification
- Ability to comply with company policies, procedures, practices, and business ethics guidelines
- Ability to comply with all applicable laws and regulations, (e.g. HIPAA, Stark, OSHA, employment laws, etc.)
- Demonstrate prompt and reliable attendance
- Ability to work at an efficient and productive pace, handle interruptions appropriately, and meet deadlines
- Ability to prioritize workload effectively
- Ability to communicate respectfully and professionally in face-to-face, phone and email interactions
- Ability to apply principles of logical thinking to define problems, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
- Ability to frequently lift up to 50 pounds independently
- Ability to occasionally lift up to 100 pounds with assistance
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and move continuously throughout the shift
- Ability to frequently perform physical activities such as pushing, pulling, and reaching
- Visual acuity to read electronic and paper documents
- Auditory ability to participate in phone or video calls clearly
- Manual dexterity to operate standard office equipment (e.g., computer, phone, printer)
- Must be available for Monday through Friday shifts
- Must be available for 8- and 10-hour shifts
- Must be available for variable start and end times
- Must be able to work in a Surgery Center setting
- Must be able to function within the limits of the MN Nurse Practice Act, State and Federal Laws, the ASC, Pre-op/PACU Department philosophies, policies and procedures and standards of care
- Must be able to label and administer medications and solutions as ordered
- Must be able to apply principles of aseptic technique, standard and transmission precautions
- Must be able to function effectively in emergency situations and when under stress
- Must be able to monitor patients utilizing sound nursing judgment
- Must be able to complete, accurate, legible and timely documentation of all patient care delivered
- Must be able to account for reporting occurrences through the center's established reporting process
- Must be able to foster the developmental and educational process of self, colleagues, orientees and students
- Must be able to participate in acceptable continuing education
- Must be able to assist in managing controllable costs by the proper, non-wasteful use of surgery center resources
- Must be able to comply with E-Verify program requirements
Desired Qualifications
- One year of nursing experience in PACU or other critical care nursing experience in the last 5 years
- Current member American Society of Post Anesthesia Nurses
