Job Summary
Provide comprehensive pre-operative nursing care for surgical patients, including assessments, medication administration, IV access, education for patients and families, and coordination of patient flow between pre-op, OR, and PACU. Ensure patient safety through adherence to pre-operative checklists, informed consent review, and documentation in EMR. Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and OR staff to optimize perioperative outcomes.
Required Qualifications
- Education: Completion of an accredited Registered Nurse (RN) program (Associate's or Bachelor's degree)
- Licensure: Active Louisiana state RN license and current BLS Certification
- Experience: At least one year of relevant experience
- Technical Skills: Proficient in pre-operative assessment (physical, medication, and history review), IV insertion, phlebotomy, EKG administration, and use of electronic medical records (EMR)
- Soft Skills: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; compassionate and calming bedside manner; strong organizational abilities to manage patient flow; critical thinking for identifying surgical risks; ability to work collaboratively with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and OR staff
