Job Summary
Conduct pre-assessment testing by interviewing patients to gather data, reviewing test results, and notifying physicians of abnormalities. Develop individualized perianesthesia plans of care by evaluating medical history and surgical plans while communicating patient status throughout the continuum. Educate patients on medications, pain management, wound care, and psychosocial responses, and actively involve them in perioperative decision-making. Serve as the primary contact for referral sources to direct patient screening and clearance for procedures. Administer medications safely using the 8-rights, handle specimens per policy, and demonstrate safe equipment operation. Provide accurate hand-off reports to teammates, participate in multidisciplinary care planning, and contribute to quality review and performance improvement projects.
Required Qualifications
- Graduate of an Accredited School of Nursing
- One year of pre-op, PACU, and/or medical / surgical nursing experience
- Current state licensure to practice within good standings
- Successful completion of Basic Life Support (BLS) or Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) within 90 days of employment or documentation of current BLS/BCLS certification
- Successful completion of Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Course within 90 days of employment or documentation of current ACLS certification
- Successful completion of Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) course is required when pediatric care is included in the facility scope services within 90 days of employment or documentation of current PALS certification
Desired Qualifications
- Specialty certification in Perioperative or perianesthesia Nursing
