Job Summary
Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate surgical patients in the immediate post-anesthetic period while maintaining clinical and communication competencies across infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric age groups. Administer critical care medications, monitor vital signs, and respond to life-saving situations based on nursing standards and protocols. Manage admission and discharge processes, including lab work, IVs, discharge instructions, and post-op phone calls to validate continuing care needs. Document patient care accurately, restock supplies, perform cleaning functions, and participate in quality improvement activities and educational programs. Work 1 to 2 days per week from 10:30 AM to 6:00 PM.
Required Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
- Valid State of Illinois Registered Nurse license
- BLS certification
- ALS certification
- A minimum of one (1) year or experience
- Ambulatory surgery center experience
- Knowledge in medical terminology
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
- Ability to compute ratio, rate, and percent
- Ability to communicate well and effectively present information to patients, families, co-workers, etc.
- Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from patients, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community
- Ability to communicate in verbal and written methods
- Ability to set priorities
- Ability to communicate well with patients, families, co-workers, etc.
- Superior interpersonal skills
- Regularly required to stand; walk; sit and talk or hear
- Occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms
- Frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds
- Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
- Close vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus
- Occasionally exposed to noise level in the work environment is usually moderate
- May be exposed to communicable diseases transmitted by patients and co-workers
Desired Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is preferred
- PALS certification preferred
- Ambulatory surgery center experience preferred
- Knowledge in medical terminology is preferred
- A minimum of one (1) year or experience is preferred
