Registered Nurse Ortho Trauma

Job Summary
Provide comprehensive, evidence-based nursing care to adult orthopedic and trauma patients on the Ortho Trauma unit, including patient assessments, developing and implementing individualized care plans, administering medications and treatments, monitoring responses, and collaborating with physicians, advanced practice providers, therapists, case managers, and other members of the interdisciplinary team. Coordinate pre- and post-operative care, support pain management, perform wound care and dressing changes, manage orthopedic devices (casts, splints, traction, external fixation), and educate patients and families about diagnosis, treatment options, mobility, weight-bearing status, assistive devices, and discharge planning. Advocate for patient safety and quality outcomes by adhering to clinical protocols, documenting in the electronic health record, and participating in unit-based quality improvement, falls prevention, and infection control initiatives. Mentor and support nursing staff, delegate tasks appropriately, and contribute to a positive, inclusive work environment. Demonstrate strong critical thinking, respond to emergencies, and escalate concerns promptly.
Required Qualifications
- RN license
- current nursing license in North Carolina (or eligibility)
- clinical nursing competency in orthopedics/trauma preferred
