Job Summary
Provide nursing care to patients during the intraoperative phase as the circulating nurse and patient advocate. Assist surgical technologists, surgeons, and anesthesia providers by performing nursing assessments, developing care plans, and confirming operative sites. Prepare operating rooms, assemble equipment, and administer medications based on age-specific standards for pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients. Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to educate patients and families, respond to emergency situations, and participate in quality improvement and performance improvement activities. Float to other hospital areas when necessary for emergencies or staffing issues.
Required Qualifications
- Current state license as a registered nurse
- Current CPR certification
- ACLS, and/or PALS per policy
- Graduation from accredited school of nursing
- Must be able to multitask
- High level written and interpersonal communication skills
- Must be able to lift, carry, push, and/or pull up to fifty (50) pounds
- Must be able to stoop, kneel and/or crouch
- Must be able to stand and walk (5) or more hours per day
- Must be able to reach, grasp, and handle and/or feel five (5) or more hours per day
- Visual acuity to correctly distinguish skin tone variations, evidence of IV infiltration, infection and to read telemetry, blood pressure gauges, etc
- Audio acuity to correctly distinguish various body sounds, i.e. respirators, heart sounds, bowel sounds and to discern sounds made by various types of machinery or equipment which would indicate dangerous or improper operation
- Lab evidence of immunity (titer) to Hepatitis B or three doses Hep B vaccine at appropriate intervals
- Documentation of current seasonal flu vaccine (mandatory from November 1st through March 31st each year)
- Lab evidence of immunity (titer) to Measles, Mumps, and Rubella or 2 doses of MMR Vaccination
- Lab evidence of immunity (titer) to Varicella or 2 doses of Varicella Vaccine
- Documented proof of immunization for Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis (Tdap)
- Documentation of a two-step TB skin test within the past year OR lab verification of a negative TB Gold or T-Spot tuberculin test within the past 6 months
- Must be able to float to other areas of the hospital when necessary
Desired Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing
- Previous experience as an RN in related care area
