Job Summary
Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care for patients in the Operating Room while maintaining a clean, safe environment. Supervise and direct patient care within an individual OR, ensuring proper techniques align with accepted standards and HIPAA regulations. Immediately report unusual occurrences to charge personnel and document all activities in the patient record. Maintain accurate medical records and participate in continuing education, staff meetings, and Q.A.P.I. programs. Follow physician orders and assist in training new staff as needed. This role offers full benefits including medical, vision, dental, and 401k matching. The position is based in Norfolk, VA, with a salary of $36-39 DOE. No weekends or call are required.
Required Qualifications
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) License required in the state where the worksite is located
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
- Graduate of an accredited Nursing Program required
- Bachelors of Science Degree in Nursing preferred
- One year of previous nursing experience in at least one of the following settings is preferred: surgical, ambulatory surgical center (ASC), Pre/Post-Op, PACU, ICU, Medical Surgical, Telemetry or Operating Room
- Knowledge of patient monitoring and emergency equipment
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook
- Printer, copier, telephone and fax
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull items up to 25 lbs
- Visual and auditory acuity—including color, depth, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus—is required 100% of the time
- Ability to work within a team
- Good communication skills: oral and written
- Has the ability to be organized, manage time effectively and in a cost effective manner
- Ability to work independently and within a group
- Attendance: Arrives to work area on time and has minimal absences. Observes assigned work schedules and hours
- Ability to respond to emergent situations
- Demonstrates a positive, friendly, courteous and professional manner
- Maintains effective communication with patients, families, physicians, and other staff
- Able to assess, prioritize, plan and implement patient care in an effective manner
- Complies with HIPAA regulations and is knowledgeable of patient rights
- Performs duties in an ethical and legal manner within the scope of their license as defined by the State
- Ability to supervise and direct patient care in an individual Operating Room
- Ensures that proper techniques and practices are used in accordance to accepted standards of practice
- Maintains medical records in an accurate and legible manner
- Follows Physician orders and directions from management
- Strong fine motor skills and full use of hands
- Constant grasping, writing/typing, and use of technology
- Ability to adjust focus
- Occasional driving or climbing
Desired Qualifications
- Bachelors of Science Degree in Nursing preferred
- One year of previous nursing experience in at least one of the following settings is preferred: surgical, ambulatory surgical center (ASC), Pre/Post-Op, PACU, ICU, Medical Surgical, Telemetry or Operating Room
- Adult Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred
- Should have knowledge of Amkai Office and Amkai Charts Database software
