Registered Nurse OP Infusion-FT Days

Job Summary

Administer chemotherapy, immunotherapy, antineoplastics agents, hazardous drugs, and targeted therapies in an outpatient infusion center or alternate settings. Perform the nursing process using evidence-based practice, coordinate interdisciplinary care, and provide patient-centered education addressing biological, emotional, and psychosocial needs. Serve as a clinical resource to nursing staff and medical leadership while participating in staff meetings, in-services, and performance improvement initiatives. Complete annual chemotherapy competence requirements, earn or maintain specialty oncology certification, and act as a preceptor for newly hired RN colleagues. Local travel is required, with float staff ability to work between Cobb Hospital HODs within 35 miles.

Required Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse (RN) license
  • Knowledge of hazardous drug therapies for treating malignant and nonmalignant conditions
  • Competency in administering chemotherapy, immunotherapy, antineoplastics agents, hazardous drugs, and targeted therapies
  • Understanding and awareness of age-appropriate and culturally aware needs
  • Knowledge of the Georgia Professional Nurse Practice Act
  • Knowledge of the American Nurses Association Scope of Practice and Code of Ethics Standards
  • Ability to uphold the voice of the patient, system policies and procedures while supporting service excellence goals
  • Ability to attend and participate in staff meetings, in-services, special projects and continued education
  • Ability to serve as a preceptor for newly hired RN colleagues
  • Ability to float between Cobb Hospital HOD's based on need
  • Chemotherapy competence
  • Ability to complete initial and ongoing professional competency assessments, required mandatory education, and population-specific education
  • Ability to serve as a preceptor and/or mentor for other professional nurses, staff, or students
  • Commitment to providing the highest quality care by engaging in continuing education, earning or maintaining a specialty oncology certification or obtaining 12 continuing education credits annually
  • Ability to uphold all health care system/organizational policies and procedures and clinical competencies put forth by this job description and professional association (i.e. Oncology Nursing Society) including legal, regulatory and accreditation requirements and standards
  • Ability to participate in data collection, pose relevant clinical questions to advanced evidence based practice, consult appropriate experts and use appropriate resources and evidence to address practice questions
  • Ability to proactively plan for the care of patients across the care continuum in the course of giving direct patient care
  • Ability to participate in the development of protocols and procedures when called upon or through self-initiation in collaboration with care managers and other members of the health care team
  • Ability to support efficient and effective use of human and material resources
