Job Summary
Provide general nursing care to patients in an acute care and long-term care facility, including medical/surgical, emergency, geriatric, and surgery units. Assess and manage pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients while responding to complications and emergencies using the nursing process. Document treatments and supplies accurately, maintain patient confidentiality, and report adverse incidents to Risk Management. Perform physical care tasks such as turning and bathing patients, adhering to safe lifting techniques for up to 50 pounds. Coordinate care with ancillary departments and participate in staff and patient education. Demonstrate critical thinking skills and compassion in a patient population spanning neonates through geriatrics.
Required Qualifications
- Must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing
- Must possess a current, unencumbered active license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Kansas
- Must be certified in BLS, ACLS, PALS & TNCC
- Must have the knowledge and ability to perform necessary computerized nursing functions
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
- Must be able to bend, stoop, reach
- Must be able to lift and transfer patients
- Must be able to provide general physical care to patients, including turning and bathing
- Must demonstrate competency in handling of crisis situations, involving the patient, family, visitors, EMS personnel and law enforcement
- Must demonstrate knowledge of the clinical assessment/management of the pediatric, adult, geriatric, medical and surgical patient
- Must respond appropriately to complications and emergencies
- Must demonstrate critical thinking skills in care of patient with potential life threatening illness and or injury
- Must document accurately and in a timely manner the nursing process in the care of each patient seen in the Emergency Department
- Must document treatments and supplies used in order to apply cost to patient accounts
- Must report all adverse incidents to Risk Management in a timely manner to facilitate patient safety
- Must demonstrate sensitivity and responsiveness to patient, family, and visitor needs
- Must demonstrate a caring and compassionate attitude with patients, families and visitors by treating them with courtesy, consideration, and tact
- Must listen to and communicate effectively and pleasantly with patients, families, visitors and coworkers
- Must treat coworkers with dignity and respect and provide them with support and assistance
- Must promote teamwork and quality patient care by demonstrating ability to positively collaborate with all coworkers and health care team members
- Must communicate concerns to the appropriate person(s) to resolve problems and issues
Desired Qualifications
- PALS AND TNCC certification may be obtained within the first year of hire
