Job Summary
Perform initial health screenings, physical assessments, and triage for newly detained individuals while monitoring vital signs and documenting medical histories. Provide direct patient care for acute and chronic conditions such as asthma, hypertension, and diabetes, developing care plans and coordinating services. Respond to medical emergencies, administer medications, and educate patients on preventative care and substance abuse prevention. Maintain accurate medical records and adhere to correctional facility security protocols while working with officers and healthcare professionals. Requires an active AL RN license, BLS/CPR certification, and ability to lift patients up to 50 pounds. New grads are encouraged to apply with training provided.
Required Qualifications
- Holds a current, unrestricted license as a Registered Nurse within the state of AL
- Must possess an active BLS CPR Certification (AHA preferred)
- Knowledge of nursing practice principles and techniques, occupational health and safety standards, infectious disease management, applicable health care laws, regulations, and procedures for direct health care services
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Able to work independently and in a team
- Flexible schedule and availability to work overtime when needed
- Ability to interact effectively with patients from diverse backgrounds, including those with mental health or substance abuse issues
- Must have the ability to maintain confidentiality of all proprietary and/or confidential information and integrity, professionalism and ability to adhere to a Code of Conduct and comply with all facility(s) correctional healthcare policies, procedures, and legal requirements
- Must pass the facility's criminal background check and drug screening
- Must have the ability to stand for long periods
- Must have the ability to lift and move patients (up to 50 pounds)
- Must have the ability to bend, squat, reach, push, pull, walk significant distances, and perform physically demanding tasks like CPR, all while maintaining good balance and endurance throughout a shift
Desired Qualifications
