Job Summary

Undertake comprehensive pre- and post-operative assessments, recognising changes in clinical condition and escalating care appropriately. Provide high-quality post-operative nursing care, including pain and symptom management, wound and drain care, medication administration, neurovascular observations, mobilisation and monitoring for potential complications. Prioritise and coordinate care according to individual patient needs, ensuring timely assessment, intervention, monitoring and escalation where required. Work collaboratively with medical, allied health and nursing teams to assess, plan, implement and evaluate care for allocated patients. Maintain effective communication with patients, families and the multidisciplinary team, providing clear clinical handover and accurate, timely documentation. Support patients and families through education and discharge planning, ensuring they understand their post-operative care requirements, medications, follow-up and ongoing management. Work 30 hours per week in a permanent part-time role caring for patients across breast, thoracic, colorectal and gastroenterology surgery specialties.

Required Qualifications

  • Current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (AHPRA) as a Registered Nurse
  • Recent clinical experience within an acute hospital or surgical environment
  • Well-developed clinical assessment skills

  • Ability to provide safe and effective care in a busy acute surgical environment
