Job Summary
Assess patient needs, implement treatment plans, and document progress while collaborating with the interdisciplinary team. Perform initial and ongoing assessments, develop individualized plans of care, and incorporate discharge planning into admission processes. Monitor patient responses to interventions, evaluate outcomes, and revise care plans as necessary. Provide patient and family education, manage pain and comfort, and delegate tasks according to state nurse practice act guidelines. Maintain a safe environment, comply with medication policies, and participate in quality improvement initiatives. Work nights in a 306-bed medical center offering comprehensive trauma, cardiac, and stroke care.
Required Qualifications
- Professional knowledge of nursing theory and practice acquired through completion of a two year training at an accredited School of Nursing
- Current New York State license as a Registered Professional Nurse
- BLS certification
- de-escalation training
- ACLS (ICU, Float pool, Emergency Dept)
- TCAR Certification (SICU, PACU)
- PALS
- TNCC
- Interpersonal skills necessary to effectively interact with patients and their families that demonstrate recognition of cultural diversity
- Ability to clearly communicate in verbal and written format
- Analytical ability to assess and develop solutions to clinical situations or unit problems
- Ability to frequently lift/carry more than 75 lbs
- Ability to frequently push/pull more than 100 lbs
- Ability to frequently bend, squat, kneel, climb steps/ladder and reach above shoulders
Desired Qualifications
- 1 year critical care experience
- BSN
- Certified Ambulatory Perianesthesia (e.g. CAPA)
- 1 year of nursing experience in preoperative, perioperative, or post-anesthesia care
- Experience in patient assessment, education, and care planning for pre and post-operative patients
- Prior experience in discharge planning and coordination of perioperative patients
- Experience with electronic health records (EHR) systems, including documentation of patient assessments, treatment plans, and discharge instructions
