Job Summary
Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care for groups and individuals using the Christ Hospital Professional Practice Model, focusing on physical, psychosocial, spiritual, and educational needs. Perform holistic assessments, recognize abnormal data, and report changes to physicians while utilizing handoff methods to collaborate with the healthcare team. Establish individualized plans of care with measurable goals, communicate using SBAR, and initiate discharge planning upon admission. Provide evidence-based, individualized patient and family education, respond to emergency situations with controlled precision, and implement measures to prevent disease transmission. Accurately document the nursing process in the electronic medical record, continuously evaluate care effectiveness, and maintain competency through required training and council participation.
Required Qualifications
- Current licensure to practice nursing in Ohio
- BSN within 5 years of the date of hire (for nurses hired after January 2010)
- BLS certification prior to patient contact
- ACLS certification within 6 months of hire in step-down and ICU areas
- Ability to accept and implement change
- Ability to work in a culturally diverse setting
- Age and culturally specific patient care and education knowledge
- Effective communication with peers
- Utilization of appropriate channels of communication
- Maintenance of absolute confidentiality
- Competence and evidence of continuing professional growth
- 75% participation in staff meetings
- 75% participation in council meetings
- Participation in unit based activities/initiatives for performance improvement, evidence based projects, and research
- Participation in council activities and task forces to improve competencies
- Participation in self and peer review activities
- Maintenance of competency in POC (point of care) testing
Desired Qualifications
- MSN or DNP (supersede the requirement for the BSN)
- Certification specific to work area of professional practice when eligible
- Participation in chosen professional organizations and conferences
- Participation in development and maintenance of research activities
- Participation in community service activities
- Membership in professional organizations
