Job Summary
Assess, diagnose, plan, implement, and evaluate comprehensive care for cardiovascular patients in the CVICU, including managing invasive lines, hemodynamic needs, and post-operative support for open heart and interventional procedures. Execute evidence-based interventions, educate patients and families, and accurately document the nursing process in the electronic medical record while adhering to organizational policies. Collaborate with the healthcare team and Clinical Manager to drive performance improvement initiatives, mentor peers, and advocate for high reliability principles to enhance patient outcomes and operational efficiency.
Required Qualifications
- Current RN licensure in the state of employment
- BLS required before patient contact
- ACLS required within 6 months of hire in step-down and ICU areas
- Unit specific certifications
- Critical thinking skills
- Proficiency in pre-operative and intra-operative support
- Immediate post-operative phases of cardiovascular procedures
- Open heart surgery support
- Ventricular assist device implantation support
- Interventional procedures including transcatheter aortic valve replacement
- Care of acute cardiology and heart failure patients
- Management of invasive lines
- Management of medications
- Management of hemodynamic needs
- Management of intra-aortic balloon pumps
- Management of continuous dialysis and ultrafiltration machines
- Management of various ventricular assist devices
- Compassionate patient and family-centered care
- Documentation of the nursing process in the patient's electronic medical record
- Timely documentation of care, updates, education, and the patient's and family's responses
- Adherence to all organizational and department policies
- Completion of required training
- Meeting all educational requirements
