Job Summary
Manage medical care for patients in the 2B-M Surgery department, functioning as a practitioner, consultant, and educator for patient groups and healthcare team members. Prioritize patient care needs in emergency situations using critical thinking and good judgment while administering IV therapy, blood transfusions, epidurals, and wound care management. Demonstrate knowledge of postoperative fluid management, glucose monitoring, and central venous access devices in accordance with College of Nurses performance standards and hospital policies. Maintain positive attendance and work competency as a reliable individual within a diverse interprofessional team while meeting physical demands of walking, standing, and bending.
Required Qualifications
- Current registration and certification of competence from the College of Nurses of Ontario
- Current BCLS
- Recent Acute surgical inpatient experience
- Demonstrates knowledge, skill and the ability to care for patients with IV therapy
- Demonstrates knowledge, skill and the ability to care for patients with blood transfusion
- Demonstrates knowledge, skill and the ability to care for patients with patient-controlled analgesia
- Demonstrates knowledge, skill and the ability to care for patients with epidurals
- Demonstrates knowledge, skill and the ability to care for patients with central venous access devices
- Demonstrates knowledge, skill and the ability to care for patients with nasogastric tubes
- Demonstrates knowledge, skill and the ability to care for patients with wound care management
- Demonstrates knowledge, skill and the ability to care for patients with continuous bladder irrigation
- Demonstrates knowledge, skill and the ability to care for patients with glucose monitoring
- Demonstrates knowledge, skill and the ability to care for patients with normal and abnormal blood values
- Demonstrates knowledge, skill and the ability to care for patients with postoperative fluid management
- Demonstrates knowledge, skill and the ability to care for patients with postoperative care
- Ability to critically think and demonstrate good judgement in order to prioritize patient care needs in emergency situations
- Highly effective decision making, problem-solving and organizational skills
- Excellent interprofessional and communication skills
- Positive attendance and work competency
- Reliable and flexible individual to work and collaborate as part of a diverse interprofessional team
- Must meet the physical demands of the position; performing substantial walking, standing, twisting and bending as required for patient care and other responsibilities
