Job Summary

Deliver comprehensive nursing care ranging from standard first aid and triage to emergency medical response, including administering complex respiratory treatments and overseeing specialized procedures like gastric tubes and ventilators. Develop and monitor Individualized Healthcare Plans for students with chronic conditions while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to align health accommodations with educational plans. Oversee medication administration, manage pharmaceutical storage and auditing, and maintain accurate, confidential student health records in compliance with HIPAA and FERPA. Monitor and manage communicable disease outbreaks, provide health education to students and families, and serve as a primary liaison between families, medical providers, and school staff.

Required Qualifications

  • Must be able to occasionally lift and/or carry up to 50 pounds
  • Must be able to provide life-saving interventions if needed. This includes the ability to perform at least 5 sets of hands only CPR for roughly 2 minutes
  • Must be able to assume and maintain a variety of postures (kneeling, squatting, crawling, sitting, standing) for extended periods of time
  • Must be able to sit on the floor, stand, or walk for extended periods of time which normally will be the length of the school day and include the physical demands of assisting a student or students in and outside of a classroom space
  • Must be willing and able to restrain/hold/transport and utilize quick body movements as indicated in the Behavior Intervention Plan while working with children with challenging behavior
  • Must have manual dexterity to perform specific computer and electronic device functions for data collection
  • Must be able to receive and communicate detailed information through oral communication
  • Must have visual acuity to read and comprehend written communication through computer, electronic devices, and paper means
  • Must have reliable transportation and be willing and able to travel between different job sites based on job assignment
  • Must be flexible and willing to work in a variety of schools and settings
  • Must have the ability to be understanding, patient, friendly, and show a receptive attitude toward children with special needs and must demonstrate the ability to remain calm under stressful conditions
  • Must have basic job related math skills, to include but is not limited to independent proficiency in addition, subtraction, multiplication and division
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English at a level required for successful job performance
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos
  • Ability to write simple correspondence
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to employees of the school district
  • Ability to meet and interact with teachers and students with tact, courtesy, and discretion
  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited nursing program
  • Current Registered Nurse Licensure within the state of practice
  • Current BLS certification through American Heart Association

Desired Qualifications

  • 1-3 years' experience as an RN in a school setting preferred
  • Preliminary or Clear Credential in the field of School Nursing for California and Illinois applicants (dependent on case requirements)
  • Nationally Certified School Nurse (CSN) through the National Board for Certification of School Nurses (NBCSN) for applicants outside of California and Illinois (dependent on case requirements)
