Job Summary
Assess physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs; develop care plans based on disease and treatment response; administer IV hydration, chemotherapy, and blood products while adhering to hazardous drug safety protocols. Educate patients and families on disease processes, side effects, and symptom management; coordinate with interdisciplinary teams including social work and nutrition for continuity of care. Escalate symptoms to providers and request supportive care consultations as needed. Participate in continuing education, departmental projects, and quality improvement initiatives. This 0.5 FTE weekend role at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center's South Lake Union location requires Saturday and Sunday shifts from 7:45 am to 6:15 pm, with initial onboarding on Monday through Friday.
Required Qualifications
- Graduate from an accredited school of nursing
- Current Washington State Registered Nurse (RN) license or current NLC multistate license (MSL)
- Ability to upgrade to an MSL primary state of residence, WA, within 60 days of hire
- Current BLS AHA Health Provider Card (or equivalent course, such as by the American Red Cross)
- ONS Chemotherapy Provider Card
- Critical thinking; the ability to practice the cognitive skills of analyzing, applying standards, discriminating, information seeking, logical reasoning, predicting, and transforming knowledge
- Ability to develop clinical judgment
- Time Management skills; the ability to organize and manage time and tasks independently
- Ability to communicate effectively by looking and listening for cues, asking open-ended questions, exploring cues, using pauses, screening responses, and clarifying response
- Ability to effectively listen by using reflecting, acknowledging, summarizing, empathizing, and paraphrasing skill
- Ability to effectively provide information by checking what information the person knows already, giving small amounts of information at a time, using clear terms and avoiding jargon, avoiding detail unless it is requested, checking for understanding, and pausing and waiting for a response
- Ability to work Monday through Friday 8 am to 5 pm for the first two weeks of employment
- Ability to work Saturday and Sunday 7:45 am to 6:15 pm
Desired Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing
- Two years of nursing experience
- Certification in oncology or specialty practice area
- 2 years of RN Oncology experience in an ambulatory infusion setting
