Job Summary

Assess physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs of patients adapting to health changes, then develop and implement plans of care based on disease, symptoms, and treatment response. Administer IV hydration, electrolyte replacement, chemotherapy, biotherapy, and blood products while adhering to safe handling protocols for hazardous agents. Educate patients, families, and caregivers on disease processes, side effects, and symptom management, including conducting learning needs assessments and providing clinic contact information. Coordinate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure continuity of care and escalate symptoms or concerns to providers as needed. Participate in continuing education, departmental projects, and quality improvement initiatives. This part-time .90 FTE role includes variable hours, shifts, and some weekend coverage at the South Lake Union clinical site.

Required Qualifications

  • Graduate from an accredited school of nursing
  • Current Washington State Registered Nurse (RN) license or current NLC multistate license (MSL)
  • MSL primary state of residence must be updated to WA within 60 days of hire
  • Current BLS AHA Health Provider Card (or equivalent course, such as by the American Red Cross)
  • ONS Chemotherapy Provider Card
  • Critical thinking; the ability to practice the cognitive skills of analyzing, applying standards, discriminating, information seeking, logical reasoning, predicting, and transforming knowledge
  • Ability to develop clinical judgment
  • Time Management skills; the ability to organize and manage time and tasks independently
  • Ability to communicate effectively by looking and listening for cues, asking open-ended questions, exploring cues, using pauses, screening responses, and clarifying response
  • Ability to effectively listen by using reflecting, acknowledging, summarizing, empathizing, and paraphrasing skill
  • Ability to effectively provide information by checking what information the person knows already, giving small amounts of information at a time, using clear terms and avoiding jargon, avoiding detail unless it is requested, checking for understanding, and pausing and waiting for a response
  • Must be available for weekend shifts
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs

Desired Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing
  • Certification in oncology or specialty practice area
  • Two years of nursing experience
  • 2 years of RN Oncology experience in an ambulatory infusion setting
