Job Summary
Provide individualized, goal-directed patient care to families and patients at the competent level utilizing the nursing process on a 29-bed unit with an average daily census of 28. Deliver safe and effective care for children with congenital and acute heart disease, including those undergoing cardiac surgery, ventricular assist devices, heart transplants, and cardiac catheterization. Manage complex supportive therapies such as ventilatory support, ECMO/CRRT, and pediatric palliative care as needed. Work rotating shifts in a high-acuity referral center for major pediatric cardiac surgery in South Carolina.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Nursing degree preferred
- A minimum of one year of work experience as a registered nurse
- Licensure as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Pediatric Advance Life Support (PALS)
- Ability to work rotating shifts
- Ability to work overtime as required
- Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs. unassisted
- Ability to lift/lower objects 50 lbs. from/to floor from/to 36 inches unassisted
- Ability to lift from 36" to overhead 25 lbs.
- Ability to exert up to 50 lbs. of force
- Ability to maintain 20/40 vision, corrected, in one eye or with both eyes
- Ability to see and recognize objects close at hand or at a distance
- Ability to match or discriminate between colors
- Ability to determine distance/relationship between objects; depth perception
- Good peripheral vision capabilities
- Ability to maintain hearing acuity, with correction
- Ability to perform gross motor functions with frequent fine motor movements
- Ability to deal effectively with stressful situations
- Ability to work in a latex safe environment
- Ability to maintain tactile sensory functions
- Ability to maintain good olfactory sensory function
- Ability to be qualified physically for respirator use, initially and as required
Desired Qualifications
- Associate or Diploma degree in nursing (for RN staff hired on or after July 1, 2013, required to be enrolled in an accredited BSN program within two years and successfully obtain a BSN degree within four years of the RN hire or reclassification date)
