Job Summary

Provide individualized, goal-directed patient care to families and patients in the Neurosciences ICU, utilizing the nursing process to deliver safe, effective care under general supervision. Collaborate with neuro-intensivists and faculty to manage acute neurosurgical and neurological illnesses across geriatric, adult, and adolescent populations. Work rotating three-to-12-hour shifts including weekends, maintaining continuous standing, sitting, and fine motor skills while lifting up to 50 lbs. Maintain current BLS certification and South Carolina RN licensure. This role supports the Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA) Program at the Medical University of South Carolina, a Magnet-designated hospital recognized as a top one percent of American hospitals.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Nursing degree preferred
  • A minimum of one year of work experience as a registered nurse
  • Licensure as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Ability to work rotating shifts
  • Ability to work overtime as required
  • Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs. unassisted
  • Ability to lift/lower objects 50 lbs. from/to floor from/to 36 inches unassisted
  • Ability to lift from 36" to overhead 25 lbs.
  • Ability to exert up to 50 lbs. of force
  • Ability to maintain 20/40 vision, corrected, in one eye or with both eyes
  • Ability to see and recognize objects close at hand or at a distance
  • Ability to match or discriminate between colors
  • Ability to determine distance/relationship between objects; depth perception
  • Good peripheral vision capabilities
  • Ability to maintain hearing acuity, with correction
  • Ability to deal effectively with stressful situations

Desired Qualifications

  • Associate or Diploma degree in nursing (for staff hired on or after July 1, 2013, required to be enrolled in an accredited BSN program within two years and successfully obtain a BSN degree within four years)
