Job Summary
Conduct rapid assessment, stabilization, and continuous care of critically ill patients presenting with cardiac emergencies, stroke, respiratory distress, sepsis, or other critical medical and surgical conditions. Implement goal-directed plans of care, monitor patient response to treatment, and promptly communicate changes to providers. Collaborate with physicians and multidisciplinary teams to facilitate timely evaluation, treatment, admission, transfer, or discharge while coordinating patient care activities to support efficient flow. Assist with emergency procedures including trauma resuscitation, stroke alerts, STEMI activations, code blue responses, and disaster management. Provide education regarding diagnoses, medications, procedures, and discharge instructions to patients and families. Document assessments, interventions, and outcomes accurately within the electronic medical record while maintaining compliance with regulatory, legal, and accreditation requirements.
Required Qualifications
- Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Current Texas Registered Nurse license in good standing
- Minimum of three years work experience as an ICU nurse in an acute care hospital setting
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
- NIH Stroke Scale Certification
- Strong critical thinking and clinical judgment skills
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple patients simultaneously
- Knowledge of emergency nursing principles and standards
- Ability to recognize and respond to rapidly changing patient conditions
- Effective communication and teamwork skills
- Proficiency in electronic medical record documentation
- Ability to maintain composure and effectiveness during high-stress situations
- Visual and auditory acuity sufficient for patient assessment and monitoring
