Job Summary
Licensed RN I provides professional nursing care to a diverse patient population, conducts nursing assessments, assists with exams and treatment, patient education, and maintenance of medical records. Collaborates with physicians and interprofessional health care team to facilitate, coordinate and maintain compassionate, efficient, quality care and achievement of desired treatment outcomes. Demonstrates clinical competency in using technology, administering medications, performing procedures, and managing emergencies, acting as a patient and family advocate. Ensures continuity of care through communication, discharge planning, patient education and coordination of services. Progression from Novice to Advanced Beginner per Benners model, with coaching from experienced RNs and management, and progression towards independent practice. Follows standards of care, nursing process, and professional practice guidelines; supports unit initiatives, shared governance, and patient/family-centered care. Requires strong communication, time management, and teamwork within the interprofessional health care team. Emphasis on safety, documentation, and continual professional growth within Houston Methodist system.
Required Qualifications
- BSN within three years of date of hire (Houston Methodist employees previously hired with offer letter addendum)
- RN - Texas State Licensure (Texas Board of Nursing)
- BLS certification (AHA)
- Texas RN licensure or compact license within 60 days (if establishing Texas residency)
