Job Summary
Provide primary health care and nursing interventions for students, including assessment, medication administration with parental permission, and emergency first aid. Monitor physical conditions, maintain accurate health records, and make referrals to school resources or external providers as needed. Communicate diplomatically with parents, faculty, and administration while protecting patient confidentiality and adhering to universal precautions. Remain reachable during scheduled on-call hours and attend required department meetings.
Required Qualifications
- Valid, current license as a Registered Nurse license in the State of Connecticut, or eligibility to be licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Connecticut
- Current certification in cardio-pulmonary resuscitation and AED from a recognized provider
- Possess a high level of personal and professional integrity
- Possess the ability to effectively communicate with strong interpersonal skills
- Ability to maintain proper record keeping and care plan management using computer software
- Possess knowledge of current health issues and nursing assessment skills, both physical and emotional, as they relate to adolescent students
- Possess competent computer skills to support communication and record keeping
- Must be able to exercise excellent judgment, maintain confidentiality, and possess strong organizational skills
- Ability to prioritize and effectively manage diverse tasks, sometimes in a stressful environment
- Availability to work evenings and weekends
- Final schedule to be discussed
- Academic year schedule, approximately 35 weeks per year plus opportunity to work through summer programs (+4 weeks)
- Designation: Staff, Academic year (9 months), Benefit Eligible
- Rare travel
- Bending, stooping, reaching, lifting, standing, carrying
- Work with students who may have infectious diseases, including but not limited to COVID-19
- Regular contact with school administrators, teachers, counselors, and other medical professionals
- Duties are generally performed in the School Health Center and may extend to other areas of the School's campus
- The Hotchkiss School is a tobacco-free environment
