Job Summary
Assess, plan, and deliver nursing care to patients by contacting practitioners for orders, administering prescribed medications and treatments, and providing emergency first aid. Monitor and record vital signs, peak flows, blood glucose, and other diagnostic tests; triage intake screenings for necessity and priority at sick call. Document care information, report treatment reactions and patient condition changes, and provide education on facility policies and discharge planning. Collaborate on medical services, maintain aseptic techniques, and recommend improved procedures to your supervisor. Notify leadership of medical or security incidents and participate in in-service education sessions. May be directed to cover shifts at multiple correctional facilities or act as a back-up to the Site Manager.
Required Qualifications
- Active nursing license in the state in which services are to be provided, in good standing
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; hands-on training
- Excellent documentation skills
- Knowledge of the RN scope of practice
- May be directed to cover shifts at multiple correctional facilities
- May be asked to act as a back-up to the H.S.A/Site Manager
- May be asked to train new hires and coworkers
