Assess, plan, and deliver nursing care to patients by contacting practitioners for orders, administering prescribed medications and treatments, and providing emergency first aid when appropriate. Check and record vital signs, peak flows, blood glucose checks, and other diagnostic tests; triage officer intake screenings for necessity and priority at sick call. Collect and record data for statistical reporting, document care information concisely in appropriate forms, and report treatment reactions or patient condition changes. Provide patient education on correctional facility policies and discharge planning, maintain aseptic techniques, and collaborate on medical services as directed. Notify supervisor of incidents, participate in in-service education, and recommend improved procedures. May cover shifts at multiple facilities, act as a back-up to the Site Manager, or train new hires.
