Job Summary
Perform physical assessments, administer medications, manage chronic illnesses, and respond to emergencies for individuals in the Julia Tutwiler Women's Correctional Facility. Monitor and document patient health including vital signs and medical histories, while developing care plans and coordinating services. Provide direct patient care, triage, and educate patients on preventative care and substance abuse prevention. Adhere to correctional facility security protocols and maintain accurate medical records and treatment plans. New grads are encouraged to apply as training is provided. This role requires a current, unrestricted RN license, BLS CPR certification, and the ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
Required Qualifications
- Holds a current, unrestricted license as a Registered Nurse within the state
- Must possess an active BLS CPR Certification (AHA preferred)
- Knowledge of nursing practice principles and techniques, occupational health and safety standards, infectious disease management, applicable health care laws, regulations, and procedures for direct health care services
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Able to work independently and in a team
- Flexible schedule and availability to work overtime when needed
- Ability to interact effectively with patients from diverse backgrounds, including those with mental health or substance abuse issues
- Must have the ability to maintain confidentiality of all proprietary and/or confidential information and integrity, professionalism and ability to adhere to a Code of Conduct and comply with all facility(s) correctional healthcare policies, procedures, and legal requirements
- Must pass the facility's criminal background check and drug screening
- Must have the ability to stand for long periods
- Must have the ability to lift and move patients (up to 50 pounds)
- Must have the ability to bend, squat, reach, push, pull, walk significant distances, and perform physically demanding tasks like CPR, all while maintaining good balance and endurance throughout a shift
