Job Summary
Provide direct and indirect nursing care to inmate-patients within a correctional environment, conducting assessments in intake areas, emergency situations, and chronic care clinics. Implement nursing and medical care orders while educating inmates on health needs and maintaining clinical areas to a clean, safe standard. Delegate duties to team members as a charge nurse when assigned, participate in unit meetings, and support problem-solving activities. Adhere to institutional policies, infection control protocols, and security directives while promoting a culture of safety. Maintain current professional skills through continuing education and in-services.
Required Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
- Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of employment
- Must conform to the security standards of the institution where employed
- Hands-On CPR certified
- Ability to pass all required health and other screening tests
- Maintains security clearance for the assigned facility
- Conforms to dress code
- Punctual and dependent for assigned/confirmed shifts
- Adheres to attendance policy
- Reports to work site at designated time
- Adheres to facility and OSHA safety rules and procedures
- Follows facility and CFG Health Systems Occurrence Protocol
- Upholds HIPAA and PREA regulations
- Maintains competency and knowledge of current standards of practice, trends, and developments in related scope of job role or practice
- Attends appropriate in-services and continuing education offerings to obtain and maintain necessary skills
- Uses current knowledge to promote a safe environment for providing health care to inmate-patients
- Adheres to institutional and medical unit infection control policies
- Understands and adheres to safe correctional nursing practices and institutional security directives
- Adheres to environmental safety guidelines, policies and procedures
- Participates in fire and disaster programs & drills as appropriate
- Accepts assignments and extra duties with flexibility and willingness to participate in activities other than direct patient care
- Adheres to personnel policies to enhance the operation of the health care unit
- May be required to work nights, weekend, and holidays
- On-call duty may be required (available to work on short notice)
