Job Summary

The Clinic Nurse (RN) will provide person-centered nursing care across AVI Nanaimo CHC programs including primary care, HIV/HCV, substance use, OAT, STI/HIV testing, PrEP/PEP, and harm-reduction services. Responsibilities include intake, assessment, education, medication access, advocacy, follow-up, vaccination administration, and referrals; work within an interdisciplinary team using harm-reduction, trauma-informed approaches; support outreach and community-based care, including settings like parks, shelters, and drop-ins; coordinate care plans, patient education, and navigation to housing, mental health, and other services; ensure adherence and monitoring of treatments and vaccines; perform phlebotomy, immunizations, and Naloxone training/distribution; participate in multidisciplinary case coordination and community education; contribute to program delivery across HIV, STI, HCV, and substance use services, with a focus on equity-oriented health care and addressing social determinants of health.

Required Qualifications

  • RN designation from an accredited institution, with current registration with the BCCNM
  • Certification in reproductive health with BCCNM preferred (Priority given to those with previous reproductive health certification and experience)
  • Minimum of 3 years of nursing experience working with those managing high levels of polysubstance use, mental health challenges, screening, assessment and treatment services to clients at risk and/or living with HIV/AIDS including providing STBBI/HIV testing
  • Experience working with trans, queer, gender-nonconforming, bi, questioning, and GBMSM identified communities
  • Experience working with structurally vulnerable clients and communities
  • Experience in responding to medical emergencies such as toxic drug poisoning (naloxone administration, airway management, etc.)
  • Experience with phlebotomy, vaccines and providing immunizations
  • Valid BC Driver's license; local travel; personal vehicle usage
  • Valid CPR/BLS for Healthcare Providers certification
  • Transportation of dangerous goods certification will be required
